  1. People across the globe produce about 50 million tons of electrical waste annually. All these computers, TVs, stereos, etc. are worth 4 million of double decker buses! If you imagine the distance between the moon and the Earth, know that electrical garbage produced on earth annually can exceed such distance. To be more exact, it will be three times longer than the distance between our planet and its satellite.
  2. While one in seven people on earth does not have enough food to eat, each year we throw away about 7.2 million tons of edible food.
  3. Though Mother Nature creates fruits and vegetables of different shapes and colors, there are cosmetic standards at supermarkets that reject any weird-looking, misshapen or lumpy natural food. It means that there are about from 20% to 40% of fruits and vegetables that are thrown away just because they do not adhere cosmetic standards. Meanwhile, there are so many people around the globe who do not have enough food to eat and a huge part of those people are literally starving.
  4. The largest lake in the UK, Lake Windermere, can be filled with waste produced only in the UK in just eight months. And when it comes to the US, the country that produces the highest amount of waste, the lake will be filled in a couple of months as an average American produces about 4.6 pounds of waste every day.
  5. Free plastic bags at supermarkets sounds quite common to all of us. Nevertheless, while the idea of free plastic bags is a classic bait-and-switch, the process of decomposing of each plastic bag takes from 500 to 1000 years. So do you really believe you need one more?

Each year around 100.2 billion plastic bags are used just by Americans. Such mindless attitude towards the environment can be minimized if shops charge some reasonable amount of money per bag, so costumes will think twice before taking one more plastic bag.

  1. We do love Christmas and we do appreciate presents. Just imagine these perfectly printed and sparkling boxes and bags! Adorable! And now imagine 83 square kilometers of wrapping paper used in Britain. It is worth to mention that in the most cases, these paper ends up in bins, while it can still be recycled. Adorable?
  2. Though the idea of recycling is great, it is better not to forget about the ability to reuse some products. So in order to save CO2, it will be better if you give your perfectly good sofa a second life instead of throwing it away. Nevertheless, statistic shows that in the UK, about 83% of such sofas are sent to dump.
  3. Modern people can not imagine raising a child without using diapers. Yes, we do understand that using diapers is quite handy. Nevertheless, the number of disposable diapers each baby gets through weighs the same as a family car! Though there are some disposable and reusable ones. Of course, if you care.
  4. Did you know that a number of glass bottles and jars we use every year will never decompose if we let them end up in a landfill? Just think about it when you decide to throw away another glass bottle or jar instead of reusing it or sorting your waste.
  5. Life is not possible without water. So keep in mind that a single leaky tap in your house can waste as much as 5,000 liters of water a year. So if you care about people who do not have access to clean water you have to know that in case we all fix our dripping taps, we will be able to supply 120,000 people with a day’s worth of water.
